 Southampton University Rifle Club is arguably the most successful University Rifle Club in the UK. The club has taken the BUSA National Championship for the last 5 consecutive years, and medalled for the past 7. Apart from competing at the highest level, the club aims to introduce as many new people as possible to the sport of target rifle - an event with the highest pedigree, having been included in one form or another in the Olympic programme since the first modern Olympics in 1896. Over the past 3 years, intake has soared, from just 6 new shooters in 2 years (all of whom had previous experience) to 10 new regulars in 2006/07, many of whom had never handled a firearm, and were truly being introduced to the sport for the first time.
