Well, I have given up on the idea of re-barrelling my Hornet and have been looking for a .223 instead. And I have found a corker.

It’s a Remington 700 SPS with a screw-cut Varmint barrel, that was bought by a chap who put @ 40 rds through it in a running-in process, and then decided he was going to buy a .243 instead.

The rifle is virtually brand new and with a retail price of @ £640 for the screw-cut style, so I thought that the asking price of £380 was very good.

I asked about the price and the chap told me that this was the price that he had been offered by a gunshop for a PX, so he would rather sell it to someone, like me, who was looking for one.

Not too sure about the heavy barrel though. Any thoughts.Tongue

Well I bought the rifle and I’m now waiting for the dies to arrive so that I can load up a few rounds.

How are you getting on with the .223 Graham? If you see my other post you can see why I am asking.

I cut the barrel down from 26 inches to 20inches as it was far too long and nose-heavy. It shoots incredibly well but was a tad noisy around the farm, so I have just had it threaded for a moderator. Found out that my gunsmith in Brum would do it for £35 unproofed so I jumped at that because he has done a lot of shotgun work for me which has been more than excellent.

Just off to  UK Custom Shop Ltd (Wildcat rifles) to pick up a Styer Predator 4, so hopefully I will be a bit quieter in the future.Wink

Well I finally found his new shop ……….bloody hell what a palaver. Not so much finding it but the fact that that road heading into Droitwich had road works on it and it took 40 minutes to get through 1 mile of traffic.

These Wildcat moderators are a very nice piece of kit and are strippable, so no problems cleaning any gunge out of them.

But the proof is in the pudding and I won’t know what it shoots like until I get it fitted onto the Remmy.

Will keep you informed.
